Low Back Pain & Sciatica

Low Back Pain & Sciatica  Natural Treatment

holistic Low Back Pain Relief We offer excellent acupuncture treatments for low back pain and sciatic symptoms. “Does acupuncture work for low back pain or sciatica?” This is one of the most common questions people ask when they call to find out about acupuncture. And my favorite one to answer. I’ve successfully treated hundreds of people with low back pain and symptoms of sciatica using Dr. Tan and Master Tung acupuncture treatment with outstanding results! Most of my patients report a reduction in their low back pain and sciatica symptoms within 5 treatments or less. Results are often seen on your very 1st visit!

Low back pain affects most of us at some point in our lives. In fact low back pain is so common the website eMedicine Health mentions that low back pain is second only to the common cold as a cause of lost days at work and that 85% of people with low back pain have no specific medical cause.

Low back pain is often accompanied by sciatic symptoms such as pain, numbness, or tingling, radiating down the buttock or leg. Not all low back pain and sciatic symptoms are due to pressure on spinal nerves. Sciatic symptoms or low back pain that are not being caused by nerve impingement are almost always treatable with acupuncture and are often completely eliminated.

What’s Causing Your Low Back Pain?

If you have low back pain or sciatic symptoms that are not being caused by pressure on the nerves – what’s causing it? It could be poor posture or lack of exercise causing strain on the muscles. Maybe you had a previous injury and now have a ‘weak’ back. Posture and core strength are important and are often the cause of low back pain and sciatica. Poor posture and inefficient body mechanics cause  muscle strain which may lead to trigger points – tight areas in the muscle that cause radiating pain. Trigger points cause pain in either the local area – such as the low back – or into the buttock and down the leg and perhaps into the foot! Sciatic symptoms can be caused by trigger points in the muscles of the low back and gluteals. Low back pain can cause trigger points that radiate pain as well.

How can Acupuncture Help?

Trigger points radiate pain along the acupuncture meridians. The meridians follow the same pathways as the nerves located in your low back. When these meridians are blocked – pain results. Acupuncture increases the flow down the meridians of the leg providing quick relief that lasts.

Serious Low Back Conditions

For most people, low back pain and sciatic symptoms are mild and go away on their own. Unfortunately for others – they become an ongoing problem, affecting every area of their lives. What if you are one of the more serious cases and have been diagnosed with one of the following conditions:

  • Arthritis
  • Bulging Disc

  • Degenerative Disc Disease
  • Spondylolythesis
  • Spinal Fracture
  • Spinal Stenosis or Scoliosis.

Even these causes of low back pain can be relieved using acupuncture. If the back is not too severely injured, acupuncture can provide relief, either reducing the pain or eliminating it altogether. Acupuncture can reduce the amount of pain medication needed while your back is healing. Many who have been diagnosed with the conditions listed above, experience remarkable benefit from acupuncture for their low back pain.

Low Back & Sciatica Research Studies

Acupuncture Treatment Effective Option for Chronic Back Pain

In the largest study ever conducted on acupuncture and low back pain, German researchers reported successful outcomes for patients treated with acupuncture vs. conventional non surgical treatments such as medication and physical therapy. “Acupuncture represents a highly promising and effective treatment option for chronic back pain,” researcher Heinz Endres, MD, tells WebMD. “Patients experienced not only reduced pain intensity, but also reported improvements in the disability that often results from back pain — and therefore in their quality of life.”

Clearly Effective in Providing Low Back Pain Relief

Acupuncture proved to provide effective pain relief in a meta-analysis of studies on acupuncture and low back pain. Researchers analyzed dozens of studies from around the world on acupuncture and low back pain. The study results were published in the April 19, 2005 issue of the Annals of Internal Medicine. “For people with chronic low back pain, this analysis shows that acupuncture is clearly effective in providing considerable pain relief,” says Eric Manheimer, study author and director of database and evaluation for the University of Maryland Center for Integrative Medicine. “The research also showed that acupuncture provided true pain relief. The benefit was not just due to the placebo effect.”
