Cupping Therapy
Cupping is an ancient physical therapy from China that loosens adhesions, releases connective tissue, and eases muscle tension. Cupping increases blood and lymphatic flow through aching or painful muscle tissue. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), pain means there is stagnation or lack of chi/qi flow. Cupping therapy involves placing glass suction cups over areas of blocked blood or qi in order to release deeply lodged stagnation.
Moxibustion / Moxa Therapy
Moxibustion or Moxa Therapy is a form of heat therapy used in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) for cold or stagnant conditions. Herbal moxa cones made of mugwort are placed on the skin at select acupoints. The moxa is lit and carefully monitored so that it gently warms the affected area. Moxa therapy or moxibustion expels cold and warms the meridians or energy channels, leading to the smooth flow of blood and qi. Moxibustion is used to treat pain or to expel cold from the body when you are coming down with a cold or flu. It may also be used as a general tonic therapy for increased energy.
Tuina
Tuina is a component of Traditional Chinese Medicine and translates into ‘push-grasp’. Tuina is a manual (hands on) healing therapy similar to the more familiar Swedish Massage Therapy. Tuina is a series of pressing, kneading, and tapping movements performed on acupuncture meridians and acupuncture points. It is usually combined with acupuncture and cupping therapy but can be performed as a stand alone healing therapy.
