Stress & Anxiety Symptoms
Ongoing stress can creep up on you causing stress overload. Anxiety is often a result of chronic stress that has gone on too long. Symptoms of stress and anxiety include tight muscles, especially in the neck and shoulders, shallow breathing, chest restriction causing the sensation of heart racing, sweating, and even panic at times. Digestive symptoms such as nausea, diarrhea, and abdominal pain are common physical symptoms of stress and anxiety. Pain is worsened during times of stress and anxiety, in addition to other health conditions you may have. Mental symptoms include obsessing over things that have happened, worry over what might happen, racing thoughts, leading to feelings of being overwhelmed and depression. When stress causes an inability to sleep, insomnia can result and become habitual. Friends and family will say ‘you should just relax’. But there comes a point where your body no longer remembers how.
Chronic Stress & Anxiety – Fight or Flight
Stress causes the body to go into ‘fight or flight’ mode, which is useful when fleeing danger or needing to respond quickly to an emergency. Stress and anxiety cause the body to release chemicals that are great to get you quickly into high gear. Stress hormones such as adrenaline and cortisol are released so you can get yourself or others out of danger by quickly sending blood to the muscles and diverting it away from the digestive tract. Digestion is then affected because fight or flight literally shuts down your digestive function so that you can respond to a physical threat. But what if there IS no physical danger? Your digestion is affected anyway! Even in the absence of digestive symptoms, you may experience slower metabolism or less nutrient absorption. Unchecked stress affects all the systems of the body when it has become chronically flooded with stress hormones. Eventually chronic stress may lead to insomnia, adrenal fatigue, exhaustion, and illness.
Natural Relief from Stress and Anxiety with Acupuncture!
My patients report significant reduction in symptoms of anxiety and stress often during the first treatment. Most people notice that their stress response is greatly minimized within their first five acupuncture visits. I have helped many people reduce or eliminate their dependence on anti-anxiety medications (always under the guidance of the referring physician). The addition of our new Neuro Acupuncture is very exciting! Using just a few scalp needles, most of my patients report a feeling of well being right on the table. With continued treatment, most anxiety symptoms are relieved and become very manageable.
I would love to help you too. Get help with your stress and anxiety. Call for an acupuncture appointment today!
